History

In 2007, National Chin-Yi Institute of Technology was upgraded and renamed the National Chin-Yi University of Technology. In order to enhance the internalization and improve students’ English proficiency, the former president decided to set up a language center which could deal with the affairs of foreign language teaching and learning as well as the required graduation threshold of English. The Office of International Affairs assisted in the establishment of this new center. The members in the education division of the Office of International Affairs and the faculty of English in General Education Center were merged. On May 2, 2010, the University Affairs Development Committee approved the plan to build up the Language Center as the first level administrative unit. Afterwards, the Language Center was formally set up on August 1, 2010 and mainly responsible for promoting English learning and helping students in certification examinations. Recently, in accordance with the New Southbound Policy and the project of “The 8-Year Project of toward Becoming a Mandarin Education Industry Exporting Country (2013-2020)”, we have been dedicated to recruiting foreign students. Due to the increase in the number of international students, the original Language Certificate Division was combined with the Foreign Language Division and the Chinese Language Division was created to provide a variety of courses and activities to help international students learn Chinese and immerse themselves in Taiwanese local life.
